Our Latest Development in Hirwaun – Lle Ysgol

Posted on by Gavin Holley

We are delighted to have completed our latest new scheme in Hirwaun. Lle Ysgol is a mix of eight 1 bedroomed flats, an adapted bungalow and 3 houses plus our commercial until rental which is a Co-Operative shop.

This was the former Hirwaun Nursery School site which had been previously been vacant for a number of years prior to us taking on the site in 2017. This redevelopment project has given us an opportunity to transform this brownfield site into much needed affordable housing and secure the future of a local community/convenience store facility which is now a Co-operative shop. The scheme has been in partnership with RCT Council and the Welsh Government and was a £2.5M investment which included the Social Housing Grant funding.

The Co-Op was opened to the public in November 2018, following a £600,000 investment supporting 20 local jobs. The store – which is around 5,000 sq.ft is a significant investment in Hirwaun and they have had a great response from customers, Co-Op are proud to be part of the community, and are committed to ensuring our new store is a local hub, a real asset locally and it was unveiled in partnership with a local school and the Assembly Member for the Cynon Valley – Vikki Howells.

Take a look at our video here:

We would like to pass on our sincerest thanks to Vikki as she again found time in her busy diary to visit the scheme when it was complete, and met with our Executive team and the new tenants who chatted to us about the positive difference this will make to them and their health.

This is our fourth scheme in the Cynon Valley with the WDL Construction who created all these schemes for us, and are a local contractor based in Penderyn. WDL have offered work experience, placements and apprenticeships on the schemes which has supported members of the local community.

We hope everyone is happy in their new homes.
