Drawing Together in the Community
May 30, 2015
On 29th May 2015 we unveiled a very special artwork at Pontypridd Museum with 50 guests in attendance.
The community project originated through our redevelopment of the Graig Y Wion School and was forged in partnership with Positively Ponty voluntary group, Parc Lewis Primary School and the Jehu Group.
When the development commenced in 2014 we discovered inside the old school building were lovely mosaics that were created by the ex pupils many years ago, alas it was impossible to salvage them despite our best efforts. However by working with local residents then new artworks were funded through Jehu and us. They were created by local community members with Positively Ponty and talented artist Cindy Laura Ward.
The design which involved resin casting, moulding metal and mosaics was created in in conjunction with Parc Lewis school pupils, local residents and volunteers. One mosaic is proudly displayed in the main entrance of the old school site and the larger, more detailed community artwork is on display in Pontypridd Museum for the wider community and general public to view and enjoy.
