CIH Welsh Housing Award 2012 – EMPOWERING AND INVOLVING COMMUNITIES 2012

Posted on by Gavin Holley

Three years ago RHA began the “Action For Change” programme which was intended for those disadvantaged tenants and community members in most need. We engaged directly with those possessing valuable skills to help them improve their employability, access training and volunteering opportunities.

Our significant success was borne from our understanding of the communities in which we work. Given the level of deprivation and poverty of opportunity it is understandable that many of our tenants were disengaged and weren’t accessing education, training or employment. We engaged with those who had slipped through the net of statutory provision, those significantly lacking confidence and faced with considerable social, health and economic barriers.

We worked closely with the support of partners and employers. All of whom have bought into the ethos of the project and helped us to create over 400 vocational training opportunities, 100 volunteer placements and helped 70 beneficiaries enter into employment.

We are delighted to have won this award at the CIH Awards Ceremony in November 2012
