Housing Horizons – Health & Housing

Posted on by Gavin Holley

Community Housing Cymru (CHC) represents all housing associations in Wales and Rhondda Housing Association is one of their members. We work closely with CHC and we have both had a busy twelve months! One of CHC’s biggest achievements last year was the launch of Housing Horizons. Housing Horizons main aim is to set a long-term vision for housing associations in Wales. This vision will position housing associations as an integral part of the solution to the housing crisis by being so much more than bricks and mortar.

We were delighted and proud to be included in CHC’s Housing Horizons film which focussed on “Health and Housing” and included an overview on a local project created by Cambrian Village Trust called Strive and Thrive.  Cambrian Village Trust applied to the Fourteen Fund administered by Community Foundation in Wales for an innovative healthy living and sports programme for tenants and community members.  The project started in June 2017, with our tenants giving us some fantastic feedback and seeing positive results such as better life management, improved health, mentoring opportunities and social groups being formed.  Strive and Thrive participants have taken part in Yoga, Archery, Walking Football, Walking Rugby, SNAG Golf, Nordic Walking, Canoeing, Health & Nutrition advice, Cycling, Mindfulness and Relaxation, Bowls and setting up of a friendship group to combat loneliness and social isolation.
